What Makes Sports Flood Lights Different?

DJI_0014

When it comes to outdoor lighting, there are many different types of flood lights to choose from.

However, it is important that you choose the right one that suits your needs. For example, if you’re looking to illuminate a sports field or stadium, you’ll need a special type of floodlight designed specifically for that purpose with different characteristics to one which is designed for, say, lighting a footpath.

As such, it is important that you know the differences between each type of flood light, and know which one is most suited to your needs.

At Kingfisher Sport, we specialise in providing high-quality sports flood lights for a range of outdoor sports and recreation facilities. But what sets sports flood lights apart from common flood lights, and why are they so important?

What Are Sports Flood Lights?

Sports flood lights, as the name suggests, are flood lights which are designed specifically for the unique demands of sports and recreation facilities. They offer a range of key features and benefits that set them apart from common flood lights, including:

  • Bright, equal illumination: Sports flood lights are designed to provide bright and uniform illumination, ensuring that players and spectators can see the action clearly, no matter where they are on the field or court.
  • High colour rendering: Many sports flood lights feature a high colour rendering index (CRI), which means that colours are accurately represented, even in low light conditions. This is particularly important for sports applications, where the ability to see colours accurately can make a big difference in gameplay. Here at Kingfisher Sport we have sports flood lights with a CRI of CRI >70, CRI >80 & CRI >90.
  • Weather resistance: Sports flood lights are designed to withstand the elements, including rain, wind, and extreme temperatures. The Kingfisher Sport Product Range feature a marine grade finish as standard, therefore making  them ideal for outdoor sports facilities, where weather can often be a factor.
  • Durable construction: All Kingfisher Sport flood lights are constructed from high grade die-cast aluminium as standard.
  • Flat-to-Ground Glass - This reduces glare, upwards light, and other light obtrusion in accordance with the ILP obtrusive light guidance notes.

By comparison, a more “general”, non specialised flood light may not provide as strong illumination or colour rendering, making it unsuitable for sports events where being able to easily identify the colour of a shirt, line, or ball can make all of the difference.

When to Choose a Sports Flood Light

If you’re looking to illuminate an area where sports may be played, such as a pitch, playing field, or stadium, a sports flood light is the way to go.
