Created by UNESCO, this global day celebrates light and the role it plays in our everyday life. This annual event recognises the significance of light and how it affects everything from science and sustainable development as well as art, culture, and education.

The day itself holds great significance as it commemorates the first successful operation of the laser in 1960.
