Last night saw many architectural greats come together and celebrate the winners of the 2020 [D]arc Awards. Guests witnessed the collaboration between lighting manufacturers and top London design agencies who came together to create some innovative and interesting lighting installations.

Collaborating with Studio-29, we designed an interactive installation that proved to be a very popular part of the evening!

Twist and Shout

The theme, conceived by the creative team behind the event, was ‘The Spectrum’. The talented designers at Studio 29 developed the concept behind the installation focusing on childhood play. We created a 2m x 2m black cube to house our swinging creation. Inspired by the childhood favourite game of twisting the swing’s chain, allowing you to spin quickly while the chains unwind, we added a hoop of colour blending light. When in motion the hoop creates a stroboscopic effect, showing off the full spectrum of our flexible luminaire, Cinep. 

The cube’s frame was constructed using 60mm box section, bolted together to create a sturdy platform for the swing. Double skinned plywood walls painted black ensured the focus remained on the swing and luminaire. 

As you can see the results more than paid off with a stunning and innovative design with many of the guests embracing their inner child.
