The much-anticipated update to the Bats and Artificial Lighting at Night Guidance Notes (GN08) has been launched by the ILP in conjunction with the Bat Conservation Trust.

For several years the panel of experts, known as 'Bats and Artificial Lighting at Night Steering Group’ have been working together to form the new GN08 document and we are proud to have been a part of this process from the beginning.

Technical Manager, James Miles has been working alongside representatives from various bodies, associations and companies such as the ILP, Bat Conservation Trust, Signify, WSP, Bat Conservation Research Lab, University of Bath and more.

So, What’s New?

The updates include information on modern LED light sources and controls, the effect of different spectrums of light on different species and introduces a mitigation hierarchy for lighting. The document also includes useful case studies for reference.
