Human and Eco-Centric Lighting

Growing in popularity, we are seeing more schemes focus on creating human-centric and eco-centric environments. However, what do we mean by this and how can we improve these spaces.

Viva_Red_V2_40

Human-centric environments are created in a way that benefits the welfare of human with different materials and technologies. Eco-centric spaces are the same, they focus on the environment as well as animals, birds and plants in order to provide the most comfortable environment possible without disturbances.

If we discuss human-centric spaces in lighting, we focus on how to make a lighting scheme have greater benefits for the humans. Human-Centric Lighting is a way of bringing the natural changes of light intensity and colour temperatures to artificial lighting schemes in order to imitate natural light.

However, eco-centric lighting is more than just warmer colour temperatures and often requires a monochromatic output that isn’t based on a white light source.

Creating a Scheme

The key to creating a human-centric or eco-centric schemes is focusing on local habitats and the welfare of those living, working, or commuting through a space. This could be animals, plants, humans, birds and more.

Kingfisher Lighting hold environmental responsibility at our core and therefore we have created a series of luminaires to help alleviate the concerns surrounding wildlife and human welfare.

Human-Centric Lighting

Kingfisher have a specialised ‘Dim-to-Warm’ system to control the warmth of lighting across your site between 4000K and 2700K. This innovative tool operates through a multichip LED board, given an even distribution of light in all colour temperatures and is programmed via the Kingfisher Controls system to meet your exact timings and specifications.

This unique system will reduce blue light, improve circadian rhythms for humans and animals in addition to reducing light pollution. Placed in either conservation areas or public realm, this solution will create the perfect human-centric environment.

This function is available with the VIVA-CITY Pro, AURIGA 2.0 and VILLA II.

Viva Amber v2

Eco-Centric Lighting

We have a range of single spectrum luminaires to offer in red, amber and green outputs. These monochromatic fixtures are better for species such as mammals, plants and birds. The red variant perfectly aligns with the recent GN08 Bat and Artificial Lighting at Night in which our Technical Manager, James Miles joined the steering group.

Red, amber and green outputs are proven to improve environments for many species as it improves melatonin levels, eating patterns, circadian rhythms and more. Therefore, it was the perfect addition to the Kingfisher Lighting range.

These outputs are currently available in VIVA-CITY Pro. Please ask a member of our team for more info.
