Kingfisher Lighting take our corporate responsibility seriously. So for World Environment Day, we’re sharing some insight on the environment, why change is so important and what we’re doing to make a difference.

In this century, it is predicted that 50% of the world’s species will be extinct, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish and forests could become extinct. It is believed that human activity is enhancing these issues and that’s why World Environment Day does such a great job of bringing these challenges to the forefront of our minds.  

Hosted by the United Nations, this annual event aims to educate and inspire the globe to take positive action to protect and restore planet Earth. This year marks the 50^th anniversary and the theme is #beatplasticpollution encouraging many businesses, governments and individuals to reduce plastic usage and opt for sustainable alternatives.

Our Work

With an aim to become Net Zero by 2025, Kingfisher Lighting, as part of the Luceco Group, are on an environmental journey to minimise the impact of products, services, processes and packaging in a bid for a greener future. In the past year, we have continued to increase circular structures into our manufacturing processes to ensure products are designed to the ethos ‘reduce, re-use and recycle’.

Here’s just some of the ways we are achieving this:

Packaging

We are reducing single-use plastic with a view to soon alleviate this from our practices all together.  We utilise recyclable materials, responsibly sourced cardboard as well as the use of paper bags for components such as nuts and bolts.

Luminaires

The NAVAR Series and CIRECO both host innovative systems that are easily repairable with elements that can be replaced; therefore, the luminaires produce minimal waste and have prolonged lifespans in comparison to standard industry fixtures.

Carbon Journey

We have been reducing our carbon emissions and so far have eliminated Scope 1 and 2. We are now working on eradicating Scope 3, which refers to the carbon produced by our entire supply chain. Our efforts include introducing electric and Euro 6 compliant vehicles and examining ways to reduce emissions in production.
