Costa Coffee, Ollerton
|
Costa Coffee, Ollerton in Nottinghamshire is a modern drive-through development for one of the world’s most recognisable coffee brands, positioned on a busy roundabout serving as a key 24-hour transport route to the A1. The scheme required a carefully considered exterior lighting design that would support safe movement through the drive-through, building perimeter and car park, while protecting against glare and back spill and maintaining Costa’s familiar brand aesthetic. Exterior Lighting Design for Costa Coffee, OllertonThis Costa Coffee lighting project focused on delivering a classic, sophisticated and energy-efficient exterior lighting scheme that met client specifications, supported safe vehicle and pedestrian movement, and satisfied relevant British Standards, ILP guidance and BREEAM requirements. The SolutionKingfisher Lighting developed a coordinated lighting design using a combination of street luminaires, bollards and downlighters to create a balanced scheme for the drive-through, car park and wider perimeter. With the site positioned on a busy roundabout and 24-hour transport route, glare and back spill were key considerations throughout the design process. Our team carefully accounted for local restrictions and client requirements to produce a visually refined solution with strong functional performance. VIVA-CITY Pro luminaires were specified using a combination of 4 x AY70 asymmetric street optics and 4 x FW70 forward throw optics in 4000K, providing effective illumination across both the car park and the drive-through areas. DECO 2.0 bollards were installed at five metre intervals around the drive-through route, delivering subtle yet impactful low-level lighting while minimising overhead lighting and reducing sky glow. The completed car park achieved 25 lux throughout, while the drive-through achieved 50 lux, ensuring the scheme met operational requirements without compromising the visual consistency expected across Costa Coffee locations. The result is a visually classic lighting scheme that supports Costa’s brand identity, enhances safety for customers and motorists, and delivers strong performance across a busy roadside environment. The Solution
Kingfisher Lighting developed a coordinated lighting design using a combination of street luminaires, bollards and downlighters to create a balanced scheme for the drive-through, car park and wider perimeter.
