Home to the Cardiff and Met Hockey Club, the National Hockey Centre in Sophia Gardens sees many high-profile events each year including International Hockey Tournaments.
The Project
Kingfisher Sport was requested to provide an LED replacement scheme to the site including full mast and luminaire upgrades to reduce running and maintenance costs on site.
We proposed a replacement of the 2kw discharge lamps to reflector-based floods to improve performance and save energy for the site. We also performed checks on the pre-existing columns to ensure they could withstand the weight of the new bracketry and luminaires.
The Solution
We mounted 40 x AMNIS Flood lights on the pre-existing masts to provide a high-performance distribution achieving 1000 lux to meet the FIH televised levels for professional competitions.
The reflector-based fittings allowed us to target the light towards specific areas of the pitch to ensure maximised optical control to minimise light waste. The high-quality reflectors prevent light waste and therefore save energy.
We then paired the luminaires with the Kingfisher Controls system ensuring the site benefited from lighting control. It was preset so the lighting could dim from 1000 lux to 500 lux for training purposes and to reduce running costs.
Overall, we provided a high-performance solution utilising the AMNIS Series. We ensured the site could host professional hockey games in line with the FIH Standards in addition reducing energy costs throughout.
